*Safety*
Hope offers many tranquil and breathtaking natural surroundings. It is important to be aware that this area is remote and common sense Alaska outdoor safety precautions should always be taken.
Remember:
Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return.
Keep children close to you and within your sight at all times, even in town.
Make noise. Talk, sing, or clap your hands to let bears know of your presence.
Be alert. Watch for bear or other signs of wildlife.
Stay on trails.
Avoid odorous items. Leave foods and beverages with strong odors, scented deodorants and lotions, and other scented items at home.
Pack it in, pack it out. Practice "Leave No Trace" ethics when enjoying the outdoors.
Drive the speed limit. Remember, even though it feels like you are in an ultra remote environment, for about 150 of us, this is home and driving over posted speed limits is unsafe and inconsiderate.
