Local Hiking Trails

Gull Rock Trail

Starts at the end of the Porcupine Campground by the parking area. Moderate to difficult for bikes, fairly easy 5 mile one way hike and ski, with an elevation gain and loss of 700 feet. Scenic views along Turnagain Arm, crosses rock slides, avalanche gully, old cathedral-like forest, and a sawmill ruins circa 1920.

Hope Point Trail

Starts at the entrance to Porcupine Campground on the left side of the road. Climbs 2.5 miles up a relatively treeless ridge (Mt. Baldy) to the top of 3900' Mt. Hope. The trail is not maintained and is steep and rocky in places. Mountain goats, bears, and moose can be seen at various times. Spectacular views of Turnagain Arm and Hope Valley. Hiking only, moderate to difficult. 

Resurrection Creek Trail

Trailhead is located 5 miles up the Resurrection Road. This cross-country trail extends 38.6 miles through forested and alpine terrain and ends at the Sterling Highway in Cooper Landing. Elevation gain and loss of about 2000'. Moderate biking conditions, easy to moderate hiking and skiing. Forest Service cabins available for rent.

Twin Lakes

This unmarked trail begins at the end of Palmer Creek Road. Fairly steep alpine terrain zigzags up the mountain adjacent to a waterfall on your left. Glacier fed lakes at the top. Hiking only.

Wagon Trail Road

Starts across the paved road from the Discovery Cafe and runs about 1 mile, connecting to Resurrection Road. Biking, hiking, and skiing friendly.
